Privacy Policy
Marqup works on your Mac. Your drawings, markups and measurements stay on your computer. We never upload, read or store your documents.
This policy explains what information Enginuity, Inc. ("we", "us") collects through the Marqup app for Mac ("the app") and the website marqup.app ("the site"), and what we do with it. Enginuity, Inc. is a California corporation and the owner and developer of Marqup.
Your documents
The app opens, edits and saves PDF files on your Mac. Everything it does to a file, including reading a sheet's scale, searching sheet text, comparing sets, redacting and flattening for submittal, happens on your computer. The app does not send your files, file names, file contents, markup text or measurements to us or to anyone else. If you store files in a cloud service such as iCloud Drive or Dropbox, that service's own policy applies to those files.
What we collect
When you sign up for the beta or early access
Your email address, and optionally your name, company and the kind of work you do. We send a message to confirm the address belongs to you. We use this to send the download link, beta updates, and news about the release. Every message has a way to stop receiving them.
Usage statistics in beta copies of the app
Beta copies downloaded from the site send anonymous usage statistics so we can see which features are used and where the app has trouble. A statistics report contains:
- a random install number created on your Mac (not tied to your name or email),
- the app version and build, the macOS version and the Mac's processor type,
- counts of features used (for example, "Cloud tool used 12 times"), session length, and the number of pages in files opened,
- error and crash details that do not include file contents or file names.
It never contains your documents, file names, markup text, measurements, location or contacts. You can turn statistics off at any time in Marqup › Settings › Advanced. Beta copies also check marqup.app at launch to see whether the beta is still running; that check sends only the app version.
The App Store version does not send these statistics unless we tell you in a future version of this policy and you turn them on.
When you send feedback or a crash report
Help › Send Feedback and Report a Bug send what you type to us at marqup.app, with the app version and build, the macOS version and the Mac model. You choose whether to include a picture of the Marqup window, the report macOS wrote after Marqup last quit unexpectedly, and your email address for a reply. If you attach the open PDF, the app opens your own email program instead, and you see everything before it is sent.
After Marqup quits unexpectedly, it asks before sending that crash report (unless you chose to always send them, which you can change in Marqup › Settings › Advanced). A crash report says where in Marqup the problem happened; your home folder name is removed from it, and it never contains your documents. We use feedback and crash reports only to answer you and fix problems, and delete them when they are no longer needed for that.
When you buy
Purchases and subscriptions in the App Store are handled by Apple. We do not receive your payment card details. Apple shares with us sales reports and, when you allow it, limited information under Apple's own privacy policy.
When you visit the site
The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web server, it records basic technical information about each request (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) for security and to keep the site running. The site does not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels, and does not sell or share visit information with advertisers.
How we use information
To provide and improve Marqup, send the beta download and updates you asked for, answer your messages, keep the site and app secure, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Who we share it with
Only service providers that help us run Marqup, under agreements that limit their use to that service: Cloudflare (site hosting, sign-up storage, statistics collection and feedback storage), our email delivery provider (verification and update emails), and Apple (App Store sales). We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or as part of a sale or reorganization of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply.
How long we keep it
Sign-up details are kept until you ask us to remove them or the beta and launch emails end, whichever comes first. Usage statistics are kept for up to 24 months, then deleted or combined into totals that cannot identify an install. Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to help you.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, and you can stop update emails at any time. California residents have these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act; we honor them for everyone. We will not treat you differently for using them. Write to support@marqup.app.
Security
Information is sent over encrypted connections and kept with providers that protect it. No system is perfectly secure, so we collect as little as we can.
Children
Marqup is a professional tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date, and tell beta testers by email when the change matters.
